The 2002 New American Awards builds on the
success of the inaugural awards ceremony held at the Inter-Continental
Hotel in the spring of 2000. The New American Awards, instituted
by Catholic Charities Legal Services (CCLS), highlight the excellent
achievements of foreign-born US citizens. The awards not only
acclaim the achievements of outstanding individuals, but also
celebrate the unique ethnic diversity that distinguishes our South
Florida community.
Each honoree has immigrant roots. Each honoree
has demonstrated not only professional excellence, but has significantly
contributed to our community through dedicated community service.
Each honoree stands as a symbol of the vitality and strength contributed
to our society through immigration. Each honoree serves as a role
model for future immigrants seeking meaningful participation in
the life of the community.

All proceeds raised from the New American
Awards Banquet will benefit Catholic Charities Legal Services,
an agency under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Miami, which
provides professional immigration services and legal representation
to South Florida's immigrant and refugee communities.
